English for Elementary Learners Micro-credential

This micro-credential aims to teach basic English skills, covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It aligns with the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The course, titled "English for Elementary Learners" guides learners in grasping commonly used phrases and vocabulary that are most relevant to their daily lives. Using a published coursebook, it enables them to engage in straightforward conversations on familiar subjects, read basic texts, and understand specific, predictable information in everyday materials. Additionally, it helps learners compose short, simple connected texts for immediate needs.
The micro-credential is structured into weekly units of learning, each focusing on the four core language competencies: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This weekly format allows for a balanced and comprehensive approach to language acquisition, ensuring that learners gain a well-rounded skill set. The course is designed to progressively build upon previously learned skills. Starting with simpler tasks like understanding high-frequency phrases, the course gradually moves towards activities like engaging in conversations on familiar subjects and writing connected texts. This ensures a logical progression that aligns with the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to:
- Identify concrete information in short, simple recordings on familiar topics.
- Express simple, concrete information orally on familiar topics.
- Identify concrete information in short, simple factual texts on familiar topics.
- Write short, simple connected texts on familiar topics.
Age Requirements:
- Domestic learners: Must be 16 years or older.
- International learners: Must be 14 years or older.
General Requirements:
- All learners must possess a valid visa (if applicable) and have suitable travel and medical insurance.
- Every learner will undergo an English proficiency test, or have been assessed as being able to succeed at this level, to confirm they are placed at the appropriate level for their learning needs.
