English for Intermediate Learners Micro-credential

This micro-credential aims to strengthen and expand the language skills of learners, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing at a level aligned with the B1+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The micro-credential builds upon the foundation laid in the pre-intermediate level and aims to provide learners with the skills to understand texts and recordings, write connected texts and express both concrete and abstract information on familiar topics. Through the utilisation of a published coursebook and supplementary materials, learners will engage in conversations on concrete and abstract topics, understand factual texts and recordings, and write straightforward, connected texts.
The micro-credential is structured into weekly units of learning, each focusing on the four core language competencies: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This weekly format allows for a balanced and comprehensive approach to language acquisition, ensuring that learners gain a well-rounded skill set. The micro-credential is designed to systematically amplify previously acquired skills. This logical advancement is in sync with the Intermediate B1+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to:
- Identify main ideas and details in straightforward factual recordings on familiar Approval Summary (run on 05/08/25) Page 1 of 3 social, professional and/or academic topics.
- Express concrete and abstract information orally on familiar social, professional and/or academic topics.
- Identify main ideas and details in straightforward factual texts on familiar social, professional and/or academic topics.
- Write straightforward, connected texts on familiar social, professional and/or academic topics.
Age Requirements:
- Domestic learners: Must be 16 years or older.
- International learners: Must be 14 years or older.
General Requirements:
- All learners must possess a valid visa (if applicable) and have suitable travel and medical insurance.
- Every learner will undergo an English proficiency test, or have been assessed as being able to succeed at this level, to confirm they are placed at the appropriate level for their learning needs.
